Method & Instructions – For Tomato Sauce For Your Beef Lasagne
Melt butter in deep saucepan along with some olive oil.
Add diced onion and carrots to the melted butter.
Season the butter, carrot and onion with salt and pepper.
Put the lid on and let vegetables sweat for 10 minutes, stirring at least once.
Pour in the tins of tomatoes.
To the tomato mixture add the thyme, oregano, basil, paprika, parsley and bay leaves.
Give it a stir and put the lid on and leave it to cook on a low heat for about half an hour to an hour. The longer you leave the more the flavours absorb into each other. You will need to stir occasionally.
When the sauce is ready take out the bay leaves. You can leave the tomato sauce as it is, or you can just mash it up a bit with a potato masher or you can liquidise it. In the YouTube video I liquidised my homemade tomato sauce for my beef lasagne.
Method & Instructions – For Mince Filling For Your Beef Lasagne
Into a deep frying pan or pot if you don’t have a deep frying pan, add some olive oil.
Once your frying pan and olive oil is hot, add the diced onion and diced carrots.
Season the onion and carrot with salt and pepper.
Add paprika, oregano and thyme.
Cover the deep frying pan or pot with a lid and let the vegetables sweat for 5 minutes.
Now is the time to add your diced or crushed garlic.
Then add the mince. Separate the mince with a fork and mix it in with the vegetables.
At the end of the cooking the mince add the fresh basil. If using dried basil then add it anytime to the mince.
Put the lid on the mince and let it cook for at least half an hour.
Once your mince is cooked, add your wonderful homemade tomato sauce into your mince.
Method & Instructions – For Cheese Sauce For Your Beef Lasagne
Melt the butter in a pot.
Add the flour and mix continuously.
Once the flour has absorbed into the butter, cook for 1 minute, continuously stirring.
A little at a time, add the milk, keep stirring.
The sauce will get thick again, this is normal.
But as you keep adding a bit of milk, eventually it will get thinner so you will get this beautiful consistency.
Keep stirring as you make your sauce.
At the end of cooking your cheese sauce for your beef lasagne, add the nutmeg and pepper.
Cooking your Beef Lasagne
Place in a pre-heated oven at Gas 4 / 180°C / 350°F
And bake in the oven for about an hour.
When you take the beef lasagne out of your oven you can check it is cooked thoroughly by putting a knife it the centre to make sure pasta is soft.
Once you are happy it is cooked let it stand for 10 – 15 minutes before serving.
Serve on its own or with chips and salad. Or serve with vegetables.
Check out the blog on how to make homemade coleslaw. The coleslaw goes lovely with a beef lasagne.
Enjoy
Happy Cooking
